What is dPE?

Ads, rental bans on the worst energy classes, the energy audit and how long a DPE stays valid. A 2026 checklist for agents.

In 2026 the agent does not produce the DPE. The agent does not market a home with a missing or expired one.

Ads show both the energy class and the greenhouse-gas class. A DPE issued before 1 July 2021 is no longer usable (those issued from 1 January 2018 to 30 June 2021 expired on 31 December 2024). A DPE issued from 1 July 2021 is valid for 10 years unless a later rule says otherwise. Read the PDF date.

Rentals: since 1 January 2025, G-rated homes with final energy use above 450 kWh/m²/year have failed the energy decency test. F follows on 1 January 2028, E on 1 January 2034. For sales of a house or a single-owner building, an energy audit has been required for F and G since 1 April 2023 and for E since 1 January 2025. Class D follows in 2034.

The DPE simulator is indicative only. It is not a regulatory 3CL certificate.
